It Is Just a COM Port: SH-C31B ships with ElmueSoft's slcan 2.5 firmware, so Windows sees it as a standard USB serial device — no WinUSB, Zadig, or driver needed. On Linux it works with SocketCAN via slcand, or directly with anything that speaks slcan. CAN FD at 5 Mbit/s, Measured: 500 kbit/s to 5 Mbit/s tested on a real CAN FD bus with 64-byte frames. At 2 and 5 Mbit/s: 50 frames each direction, byte-for-byte correct, zero error frames. BRS carried on request. 5 Mbit/s is the transceiver's ceiling; we claim no more. Based on CANable 2.0, Hardened: An enclosure, plus protection the reference design lacks — a resettable fuse in series with CAN_H and CAN_L, and TVS clamping on both. A 120 ohm termination switch is built in, and the bus uses a 3.81 mm screw terminal. SH-C31B is the serial-port edition of our SH-C31A CAN FD adapter. The board is the same — same STM32G431, same transceiver, same protection, same enclosure. What differs is the firmware it leaves the factory with.It runs ElmueSoft's Slcan 2.5, which presents the adapter to the host as an ordinary USB serial port. Nothing is installed on Windows; on Linux it attaches to SocketCAN with slcand. The firmware also surfaces bus error states that older slcan builds never reported at all, and adds bus-load reporting, hardware filters and a software route into DFU.
